This means that for non Creative Labs Sound Controllers you need 4 normal Stereo both ends jack cables to connect up the 7.1 speakers, and that the included Creative cable with the speakers is only for Creative labs speakers. This allows the Creative Labs cards to have more connectivity on their cards for other things: a jack for digital, a jack for line in, a jack for rear mic, and the three jacks (2 of them special 3 ring 1 tip) for the speakers. But just like the connections of a 5.1 speaker hookup, the three jacks (2 of them special 3 ring and a tip), are used. Creative did not supply the 4 individual STANDARD cables (with standard stereo jacks on both ends) needed for NON Creative Sound controllers.Ĭonfusing? Yes! But, in a nutshell, Creative Sound cards use only 3 jacks, 2 of which are more than just stereo (have an additional channel each) to accomodate 7.1 sound rather than 5.1 sound. They are what supplies signal to the side channel speakers but ONLY ON CREATIVE LABS SOUND CARDS that *USE* the special cable. They have 3 rings and a tip on them rather than 2 rings and a tip of a regular Stereo jack.īetween those 2 special jacks is a total of 2 extra rings. Bu-ut, the other end of this complex composite cable has only *3* jack ends, and if you look closely, you will notice that *2* of those jack ends ARE NOT simply "stereo" jacks. Now, if you look closely at the cable that came WITH your P7800 speakers, on one end the cable has 4 STEREO end jacks that connect to the 4 female jacks/feeds into your woofer case. Standard on board sound comes with 6 connectors of 2 channels each using *STEREO* wired phono jacks. They are color coded such that you can match black to black connector, orange to orange connector, and so on. Well, here's the thing: On on board sound controllers there are 4 discrete, 2 channel each, female mini phono jack connectors. Most *computer* speaker sets are 6 channel 5.1 sets. This is uncommon, and almost the ONLY 8 channel computer speaker set ever made. The P7800 speaker system is a 7.1 speaker system, in other words, 8 channels. Ok, here goes, stay with me here, this is confusing: 1: Is it the cable that came with the speakers, because that is a special cable that can't always be used, more on that later.Ģ: What make and model Sound controller do you have? Is it a Creative Labs or a non Creative labs sound controller?
